Killer Autumn by Kay Bigelow
Synopsis
Leah Samuels, owner of the Black Orchid Investigations firm, has a new client—her old nemesis, Stephanie Grandini, mob boss and notorious adulterer whose longtime paramours included Leah’s late wife, Quinn. Grandini has had millions stolen from her, and she wants the name of the embezzler and the location of her money. Though BOI has the preeminent resources and reputation to take on such a task, Leah can’t help thinking that Grandini has more personal motives in mind.
What starts as a simple corporate espionage case quickly hits close to home when Leah discovers that her finacée, the wealthy and important Jardain Bensington, also has ties to the infamous mobster. The investigation takes the BOI team in directions they didn’t expect when they first accepted the case, and Leah finds herself in a web of intrigue and deceit that blurs the lines between professional and personal, and leaves her in a roiling state of déjà vu. Once the culprit is found, Leah isn’t sure they should—or can—turn the perpetrator over to the ruthless Grandini. Worse, she isn’t sure that she can trust the one woman she loves more than anything in the world.
