Synopsis

When Special Agent Joe Bird of the National Park Service agrees to take a much needed vacation, he gets visited by an FBI Special Agent who requests his assistance investigating the questionable financial activities of a megachurch located in Bird's jurisdiction in North Carolina. Bird joins forces to determine the extent of the suspected criminal enterprise near Nantahala Lake in Macon County. The good news is that FBI Special Agent Clint Robinson just happens to be his brother-in-law. Meanwhile, as their undercover investigation begins to unfold, illnesses and bodies begin piling up around Joe's region in alarming numbers. In the space of two short weeks, they encounter obstacles thrown at them by nature and situations that come perilously close to them losing their own lives. They are left to trust their own instincts to survive. The Procopius brings together two powerful special investigation agents in a riveting story that unfolds with furious momentum. It doesn't take Joe and Clint long to find out their quarry is a sociopath with a twisted mind, and – as they close in on him and his wife – they will come to find out how stunningly depraved and ruthless he really is.
