Synopsis
A novel published in 1859 by Charles Dickens. This is a historical novel written by the author who was stimulated by reading T. Carlisle\'s The French Revolution (1837), set in London and Paris with the French Revolution in the background. Manet, a doctor, is imprisoned in Bastille prison for 18 years for accidentally learning the secret of a French nobleman, then freed and transferred to London. Danny, who loves his daughter Lucy, was the nephew of the French aristocracy, and was a young man who came to England because he hated the cruel French aristocracy and made excuses for his British name. Another young man who secretly loved Lucy, the drunkard attorney Carton, dies on behalf of Danny, who was executed by the revolutionary government for his loved one... .
