Synopsis

This book exposing the development of ceramic reinforced metal for bone implant application consisted of wollastonite, hydroxyapatite and titanium. Implants are the common options for bones repair and replacement due to accidents or major injury. Nowadays, the cost of bone and hip implant is very high that may reach up to 6.8 mien USD per year. Thus, a novel composite material produced from the natural resources and fabricated using a reliable and low cost powder Injection molding (PIM) process with proven mechanical endurance and biocompatibility were highlighted in this book. It is highly expected that the cost of implants will be greatly reduced by PIM process with higher durability (longer performance) than the existing commercialized SS and titanium implants. Therefore, in this work, all the experimental studies related to the fabrication of titanium/wollastonite/hydroxyapatite is presented in an easy-to-understand format. For that reason, the facts and knowledge regarding to implant fabrication could be extended not only to the researchers, but to all level of community regardless of any background.
