A FOUNTAIN OF FRIENDSHIP is the true story of a sailor, a ship, and a song. The sailor's name is Duane Hodges, the ship the USS Pueblo, and "The Lonely Bull," by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, was the Pueblo's theme song. On January 23, 1968, the Pueblo was attacked and hijacked in the Sea of Japan by North Korean military forces in international waters off their eastern shore. Of the 83 crewmen aboard the Pueblo that fateful day, one lone sailor was killed in action during the attack: 21-year-old United States Navy enlisted seaman Duane Daniel Hodges. But this is not the story of how this young sailor died that day. Rather, it's more about how simply and sublimely this young American lived the majority of his life right up to moment he left our crazy world and how he continues to live on in the memories of all who knew and loved him.
