Green, The Other Monster, speaks, of course, of jealousy, that green-eyed monster that can afflict even the best of relationships. Even the most secure person can misinterpret an innocent glance, a word, a call, and bring forth emotions of envy, resentment, suspicion, and distrust. Feelings, misplaced or not, that can destroy even the strongest relationship.
As in its companion volume, Red, Lust is a Monster, these poems speak to the human condition, to the heart’s longings: dark and deep, bright and open, and, sometimes, to bitterness and soft hatred. Such feelings convey the basic human emotions and experience of love and loss, life and lust, in such a way that even sorrow, grief, and despair can sometimes be felt as an ecstatic experience.
