The fishing industry is synonymous with Peninsular Malaysia’s east coast states. The ready accessibility of fish and the ample landing places for the catch are factors which have drawn the local population into the keropok industry, which has become a fast growing industry locally and internationally, producing a diverse range of keropok, from keropok keping (crackers) to keropok lekor. Available widely in every district, production centres in and around Kuala Terengganu are found in fishing villages such as Kampung Losong, Seberang Takir, Mengabang Telipot and Batu Rakit which are popular with tourists.
