Life can bring you many ups and downs. What determines it and you is how you cope with it as a person. In Yemya's case, love determines her life. It controlled her actions, her thoughts and her feelings. It became her mentality. In A Lover's Mentality, Yemya is faced with many life changing decisions all the while learning the outcome of her mistakes in the process of maturing as a woman. Unsure if she is able to continue to hold on to what she think is love; or if her heart and mind strong enough to stand with her back against the wall.
