Psycho"therapy" and the Stories We Live By is a professional autobiography tracing the author's journey as a Professor of Psychology and Psychotherapist from 1969 until his retirement in 2018. Arguing that human beings must be politicians in order to solve the inevitable conflicts of living with other human beings, and that the politics of relationships can be described as either authoritarian or democratic in nature, it explores psychotherapy as a process of helping those who are suffering change the narratives by which they live.
