Synopsis
This book is the result of our common interest in Critical Discourse
Analysis (CDA) which is an approach that offers researchers space to
explore inequalities that often go unnoticed and therefore unchecked
in texts and talk. When reading media texts, the need to critically
analyse structural inequalities is even greater because the word of
the media is very often regarded as the truth. As researchers, our
interest must be to uncover and document this truth. Proponents of
CDA opine that the way media texts represent people, events, actions,
and even relationships are not neutral. Researchers who take a CDA
approach to the analysis of media texts are therefore interested in
uncovering choices that are made in the representation of news. In
doing so, they reveal ideological workings that benefit some more
than others.
